Nestled along the Santa Ynez River, our family-owned vineyard has been crafting award-winning wines since 1983. Here, the Pacific breeze meets sun-drenched hillsides — and every bottle tells the story of this extraordinary place.
Bien Nacido — Spanish for "well-born" — was named for the rich, fertile soils and the cool Pacific winds that flow through this valley. Founded in 1983 by the Bien Nacido family, what began as a modest planting of Chardonnay vines has grown into one of Santa Barbara County's most respected vineyards.
Today, our 150 acres of estate vineyards produce fruit for our own label and supply some of the region's most celebrated winemakers. Every vine is tended with the same care and conviction that guided us from the very first planting.
150 acres of meticulously tended vineyards on the Santa Ynez River floodplain
Four decades of hands-on winemaking passed through generations
Committed to environmentally responsible vineyard practices
From our estate-grown grapes, we craft wines that express the unique maritime climate and diverse soils of the Santa Ynez Valley.
Our estate Chardonnay is the cornerstone of Bien Nacido. Bright acidity, notes of green apple and citrus, with a subtle oak influence that speaks to our barrel-aging program.
Cool-climate Pinot Noir at its finest. Silky tannins, layers of raspberry and cherry, and a hint of earth that captures the essence of our riverfront terroir.
Bold and complex, our Syrah showcases dark fruit, black pepper, and a smoky minerality. A wine that rewards patience and celebrates our warm afternoon sun.
Crisp and vibrant, our Sauvignon Blanc bursts with tropical fruit and herbaceous notes. A perfect introduction to the coastal character of our vineyard.
Dry and refreshing, our rosé is made from hand-harvested Pinot Noir grapes. Pale salmon color, with strawberry and watermelon notes — ideal for Santa Barbara evenings.
Aromatic and full-bodied, our Viognier offers peach, apricot, and honeysuckle. Rich texture with a lingering finish that lingers like a long summer afternoon.
Our vineyards sit on the floodplain of the Santa Ynez River, where cool marine air rolls in through the Santa Ynez Mountain pass each afternoon. This unique microclimate — warm mornings, cool evenings, and a long, steady growing season — produces grapes with extraordinary concentration and balance.
The diverse soil types across our 150 acres — from sandy loam to clay-rich deposits — give each block its own character. Our winemakers work closely with the vineyard team to ensure every parcel expresses its distinct terroir in the glass.
We invite you to walk our vineyard rows, taste our wines among the vines, and discover why so many visitors call Bien Nacido their favorite stop on the Santa Barbara wine trail.
